Message of Jesus - weren't many of his messages of His impending death and the ramifications of it? Aparently not. Life of Jesus - see Message of Jesus above... His life = His ultimate message Terrifying wisdom of Jesus?! Robin will understand "terrifying" someday. Obviously it's not today. Everyone is entitled to their opinions...

You know, the King James version, including a few versions that came before it have omitted hundreds of verses from the gospels and the like that were deemed unnecessary because they did not fit in the way the writers' sponsers wanted it to fit.

There are some decent translations out there now that are much more literal... almost to the point of being hard to understand in many cases since our culture and language is so different than theirs was so many years ago.

Posts: 5 (03/21/04 07:18:28) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	In response to the original question at hand...Do those of us who have seen the movie think that it was grossly and unnecessarily violent or do we think it was accurate? Logical reasoning gives me cause to believe that this movie is most likely more accurate than inaccurate. It does not deal with many of the miracles performed by Jesus, nor the ascension at the end. It concentrates rather on the mindsets, personalities, and actions of the men around Jesus. I think that's an important point because we don't know exactly how the miracles occurred most often, nor do we know exactly what the ascension looked like. The movie is entitled The Passion of the Christ, which can literally be translated into "The Suffering of Jesus." That, along with the concentration on the men surrounding Jesus in his final hours really sets the scene for nothing more THAN violence and suffering. We're talking about a time in which people gathered in the streets to watch gory public executions, flayings, humiliation and torture. (Haven't progressed much as a society have we? If the networks would televise such I guarantee there would be no need for the Neilson Ratings.) Regardless, having studied psychology and sociology as I have, I realize that it's widely known how brutal guards and jailors have a tendency to become. In well-documented social experiments where normal citizens are divided up to play the parts of jailors and prisoners, the men who play the role of jailor will quite often eventually become violent and overbearing even with the knowledge that their "prisoners" are not prisoners at all but citizens like themselves...Add to that the fact that this was the public humiliation and torture of one of the biggest "celebrities" of the day...Add in the fact that these were already brutal jailors who had the egotrip of knowing they served the crown...Add also the fact that the people would be gathered en masse to watch and cheer on the tormenting guards...And the fact that the guards were given the go-ahead by the ruling voice to punish and torture Jesus... In answer to your question...I find no reason to believe that this film is either unnecessarily gory or violent in light of what we as a society know of both history and the human psyche. I think it's very good, although a few scenes were a little odd, and it was noticeably slow at a time. I suppose that I'm nitpicking, though, so it's no big deal... just thoughts. None of the violence was unnecessary. Even if it would have been, that wouldn't have justified damning the movie and whatever else is causing many of the critics to have harsh beliefs toward it; unless this is pure idiocy, which is certainly the case. It was difficult to watch during the scourging, but a dramatic film can and should do that, especially when there is so much joy and artistry behind it. How rare that is when most movies are @#%$. The End P.S. "Spartan" is also great, but I don't think it's playing in the big theaters, but I rarely go to the big theaters, anyway.

It's kinda how I felt about the movie, too, but I'm not impartial since I'm a fairly religious person who believes in Christ.
